RTL-SDR testing

Hey guys,

I finally got my RTL-SDR to be recognized properly by my CentOS system and can capture raw IQ data from rtl_sdr -f ....

I am now trying to see if my data makes any sense. I've imported it into MATLAB and loaded it and can see IQ data, but I'm not sure it looks right.

It's cycling through a pattern like this: 1.5 + 0.5i

-0.5 - 0.5i

-0.5 - 0.5i

-1.5 + 0.5i

-1.5 + 1.5i

2.5 - 0.5i etc...

Is this typical output to see? I'm worried there might be a gain setting or something I got wrong that's saturating the ADC. Thank you!

Alternatives to MeteorGIS?

Meteor M2 is a nice satellite, but receiving it on Linux is pretty disappointing. medet and meteor_demod do a fine job of providing you with a reasonable BMP but that's it.

The tools for stretching the image to correct for perspective, or for overlaying maps, are windows-only.

Are there any alternatives for image perspective correction/map overlay/coloring of clouds?

The other option would be trying to run LRPTOfflineDecoder and MeteorGIS under WINE (MeteorGIS requires some files that only seem to be generated by LRPTOfflineDecoder).

RTL-SDR Discussion • Re: ExtIO_RTLSDR# — custom ExtIO for RTLSDR

hi qrp
tnx for the new extio
trying to get it to go on windows 10 but _u8 both 1001 and 1115 have a problem locating rtlsdr.dll.
Have in same dir as HDSDR.exe.
Using 2.76 and a 2832 dongle that works fine using Extio_RTL2832.dll

[TRACE] ExtIO_RTLSDR# - ExtIO plugin for RTLSDR (c)2019 alex_m
[ERROR] DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'rtlsdr': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

USGA Ganging Stations

USGA Ganging Stations

USGS Ganging Stations... Wow how I wish I could edit titles!

I've seen these stations around and my understanding is that they uplink to GOES satellites.

Just curious if anyone else has looked at this and if anyone has been lucky enough to capture a sample of the uplink signal iirc around 401MHz or if someone has somehow seen the inside of one.

They collect water level data and reports are then posted here: https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/rt

Here are some images of one near me:

Need help on calculating Earth radiance from NOAA Satellite

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get a heat map from a APT image. I've been following the User Guide and the KLM Users Guide but can't get an accurate representation. I've used the values provided in 89 of the Users Guide to replicate the table from page 92 but the Nlin value is off by around 20.

Has anyone tried to do this?

Appreciate any tips!

MetOP satellites lrpt — any success?

while looking for satellites I could record besides NOAA and Meteor, I came across the MetOP satellites fleet which are featuring an lrpt transmitter. But it seems that nobody on the internet decoded images from MetOP using a rtl-sdr. Did anybody of you have any success decoding one? According to this german page it transmits on 137.1 MHZ.

Antennas • Re: Antenna on the roof or in the attic ?

Greetings I use a mansard antenna about their pros and cons you can read here https://technogeekknows.com/reviews/best-attic-antenna/. I will say that the choice of an antenna still depends on the convenience of approaching it, since if a breakdown happens to it, how will you fix it? I also recommend using not the cheapest antenna - since they are made in China and they are designed for relatively once - I watched the TV program and threw antenna away.
