FM scanning: What am I doing wrong?

Reading a ton of written material on FM scanning, but everything seems to be at least 5 years old and is a mismatch of information. All of it surrounds the use of rtl-fm.

rtl_fm -f 104.5M -M fm -s 200000 -r 48000 -g 36 -l 150 | aplay -t raw -f S16_LE

This is what Im using so far. To test Im tuned to a local commercial fm radio station. Im getting nothing but repetitive big cat growl sounds (its actually kinda funny to listen to).

Some of the threads Ive read on this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/RTLSDR/comments/uc8yt/simple_and_low_resource_scanner_rtl_fm/

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11542

https://lansley.com/2014/10/23/simply-listen-to-an-fm-broadcast-station-using-rtl-sdr/

Long term I hope to scan voice fm signals non-commercial with this, if youve any reccomendations on that as well. Thanks!

Wide Area Composites using WXtoImg

Wide Area Composites using WXtoImg

Thought I would experiment with WXtoImg using the built-in ability to create wide-area composites. In this case, I used captures from San Francisco, my site, Finland Norway, and England and more... It's not much as I only had 8 Pristine images to build off of. If you have use a WXtoImg generated web page and post Pristine enhancement images, send me the link and I'll post it on my page here. http://dodgem37.com/wxtoimgref/

The more available raw images, the better! In theory, the whole earth can be mapped. Instruction on my site as well.

Anybody have good luck with these? Only $8 and can cover VHF, UHF, and FM. I bought one to experiment with.

Hi QRP! Great stuff, thanks.

Where can I get the source code of your driver implementation?

Thanks again.

How to demodulate ASK, PSK, FSK, QPSK, MSK, GMSK radio signal using rtl-sdr?

Any guides for receiving GOES imagery?

I've been receiving NOAA images and it's awesome! I'd like to try out GOES too, but I couldn't find a simple guide about it. I'm really a beginner, so it'd be very nice if there's a noob friendly article. Thanks!

General propose antenna?

Hey!

I know that the title sounds a bit naive, but I am starting to explore the rtlsdr world, and I am looking for something to replace the simple antenna that I got with my hackrf. I am not expecting to get some almighty antenna that will do it all, but I am hoping to find something (ideally tabletop) that will help me to explore more and for a more significant range. Is there something you could recommend? Tbh I am not looking for any specific signal or frequency - it's more about getting familiar with rtlsdr, but being able to catch more than the fm radio broadcast. Thanks for any advice!
