Got the RTL-SDR V3 dongle — should I also get the Airspy R2?

I have the RTL-SDR V3 dongle from rtl-sdr.com but what I want to do is use an SDR as a spectrum analyser. I was lead to believe that if I wanted to use SpectrumSpy, I would need to buy the Airspy R2 SDR and use that instead. Is that correct? If it is a not correct, then I am having problems with getting my RTL-SDR dongle to work with SpectrumSpy. It works perfectly with SDRSharp, not with SpectrumSpy. It just says it cannot open the Airspy device which is what lead me to believe that I needed an Airspy v2. Any help would be appreciated.

Goes help needed

Hi Guy

Before I go down the road at great expense getting geared up to receive goes images, I want to know can I get the images off goes 10 or goes S. I am at the tip of South Africa and only see those two satellites with dishplotter. All the tutorials seem to be for goes 15 or 16.. I have already had very little luck with a dish and inmarsat. Any help would be greatly appreciated

RTL-SDR Discussion • RTL-SDR + SDR-Console v 3.0.7 — offset settings

I have probably some very stupid problem - I am not able to set offset for SDRConsole 3.0.7 when used with RTL-SDR USB dongle and 10GHz LNB to see correct frequency on console display - all the time I can see standard 739.xxxMHz and setting of downconverter offset to 9 750MHz does not any influence. Maybe I missed some piece of info but I tried to read all comments on SDR-radio.com web and nothing learned here :-(
(everything is working perfectly, only frequency display info is out :-( )
Any advice welcome...

Antennas • Re: Wideband loop antenna amplifier (kit)

Bummer! I was looking forward to this. Back to the drawing board again for me.

A low-pass or band-pass filter between the Pi’s GPIO output and an antenna isn’t just recommended, in most countries it is most likely legally required to comply to comply with various laws and regulations regarding spurious RF emissions (for instance, FCC part 15 in the U.S.) An example of a proper filter might be this one: https://tapr.org/kits_20M-wspr-pi.html

Comment on Simple NOAA/Meteor Weather Satellite Antenna: A 137 MHz V-Dipole by Dave

You could but really it’s such a strong signal even on a handheld scanner it’s not necessary imo. If you wanted to though apparently the uptronics LNA is a good one

I managed to build the antenna properly, I can receive radio signals 😀 . I would like to ask you, Do I need an LNA to receive SSTV from ISS? At first I didn’t think it was necessary but then I saw one guy was using one of them and then doubts came up. In that case, which one do you recommend me? Thank you for the help in advance!
