Nooelec SMartee XTR for satellites?

Recently, I've been thinking about getting an SDR with a bias tee for an upcoming satellite project I've been planning, and I could potentially get a Smartee XTR. Would it provide any noticeable improvement with L-band reception and other satellite related uses, or does it do about the same as a standard SDR in that area?

Troubleshooting Help • Re: Unable to Direct Sample from RTL_TCP with Version 3 Dongle

The rtl_tcp -h response of my current Osmocom drivers do NOT include a '-D' option.

I have been trying to find 3 things associated with the Keenerd drivers
a. some document that confirms that they offer the direct sampling command line option, and
b. confirmation that the Keenerd drivers include a set of drivers compatible with Linux (Ubuntu), and
c. a link from which the Keenerd driver files can be downloaded and installed.

I have been searching all over github but lack the confidence that I know what I'm looking at. If someone knows the correct link, I'd appreciate your sending me a copy of the link.

My first clear SSTV from ISS

Received at 16:50:20 UTC, close to the end of the event

Signal started at ~17º elevation to ~3º, the signal was strong even at such low elevation

Using RTL SDR v3 and it's straight dipole antenna kit, no LNA

Software used: SDR Radio V3 and RX-SSTV

Below was my first SSTV attempt yesterday, signal was blocked by a building at the beginning of the pass. This was from ~42º elevation to max ~57º to ~31º

I wouldn't expect the HackRF to be capable with the portapack.. The hardware just isnt going to do it.
However you might be able to in SDRAngel using the ATV demodulator.

I've not tried it but if your camera is analog that might work, ofc if that's the case a 2.4 ghz baby monitor would also do the trick.

I wish I had a solution for that... The tablet in my car is Windows 10 and I have 3 SDRs attached to it.
For some reason after an update I one of them showing up with double the interfaces. This only happens with one of the three which is even more strange.

I would also recommend a restart of the PC to ensure nothing in the background is attempting to use the hardware for one reason or another.

When I was doing my installation tutorial I uninstalled the driver several times and ran into the same issue, installing immediately after a reboot resolved it for me.

And just for shits and giggles... You did but the RTL-SDRv3 right? I've seen a lot of people buy the cheap Chinese tuners back before these things became so popular and those just don't have the same build quality or QA that the RTL-SDR blog offering has.

EDIT

If all else fails temporarily disable microsoft windows restore and attempt the install. I had a computer that was having issues with restore... it would fail to create a restore point and cause the driver installation to time out.

If that works just make sure you turn restore back on after.

You are running into one if not two problems here.

1) The P25 frequency are are listening to is likely on a system and hops around a lot as you are not following the control chanell. This can result in being able to hear something one moment and then nothing the next.

2) The frequency you are listening to is encrypted in which case it will sound garbled.

My suggestion is to either use Unitrunker (you'll need two RTL) or SDRTrunk which can track a system even with just 1 RTL-SDR. Unfortunately I have not yet made my tutorial on setting it up but it shouldn't be too bad.

SiriusXM 50′ extension cable for my antenna?

Brand new to SDR, waiting on my RTL-SDR v3 dongle. I plan on making a planar disk antenna to start with. Can I use this 50' Sirius XM extension cable that I already have? I think the connectors are SMB on it though. The Dongle has a male SMA, so I need an SMA male to SMB female adapter or pigtail, right? I think one of these will do the job, right? Then, if I can't scrounge-up an SMB male connector somewhere, I would need this for the antenna itself, right?

Also, there's an inline passive amplifier on it (that weatherized bulb-thing on the end), will that cause a problem?

What do you think of this plan, at least to get me going until I come up something better?
