Comment on YouTube Tutorial: Software Set up for a Portable Raspberry Pi and RTL-SDR Based NOAA Weather Satellite Receiver by beta-tester

hi Matt, thank you for the videos…
please check your sound recording setup.
thesound in your videos tend to give an annoying feedback beep.

Antenna Logistics: Can I use my old cable lines?

I need a better antenna. I think I've settled on a discone, but I'm rather lost on all of the jargon around connectors and wires and such.

I'm currently most interested in the 850-860mhz range for my local P25 system, but the wideband-ness of the discone would be useful for other exploration.

My house has two cable lines coming in to a closet on the other side of the house from my setup. There's a line from that closet to right behind my desk, so I could run an antenna outside from the back yard to that external connection to the closet and through the house to my computer. Can I run a standard cable coax from the antenna? What types of connectors will I need between the antenna, the cable, the SMA connection on the dongle? Lots of pages and discussions seem to gloss over the details that I'm apparently missing.

If I can't use the cable lines, would the discone work well indoors (compared to the normal telescopic antennas) sitting near my window? What can I do to get the cable through the window as I know that would be better? I've seen flat coax cables, but have no idea if they'd work in this case. I'd then have to run a line 50+ feet to my back yard, and I guess attach the antenna to... a pole sticking out of the ground? My fence, maybe...

Basically, I'm missing a ton of details before I can move forward, and I can't seem to find those details in my searches. Any suggestions?

Troubleshooting Help • Re: Replaying .raw file recored from GQRX?

I found the answer and been able to replay recorded IQ Raw file recored with rtl-sdr in GQRX and replayed with hackrf with gnuradio.

Rason why i wanted to record with Rtl-sdr is becuase of higher rx...

Added a pic for those who are noob like me.

so, if you see the program not working, it should be caused by something other, the "PLL not Locked" message is distracting you from finding the real problem.

Cordially

Hi Danie,

Echoes uses librtlsdr to interface the dongle and that message is produced by that .

I always see that message when I start my program but it still works despite that. Maybe your don’t?

Other SDR Devices • Re: Recieve 2.4 & 5.8G Drone camera-video with Portapack

I wish they can make it.. trying to find a way if i can connect hackrf to my radiocontroller with inbuild drone video reciever will write a tut if i can find a way.

Other SDR Devices • Hackrf one — increase RX-TX

Anyone know if it possible to increase the Rx & Tx signals for hackrf one, its really weak , especially rx is like 3 times weaker than my rtl-sdr, i dont understand how its possible a dongle for 20 usb have much more powerfull rx than 250usd device!

Is there any part i can replace to make it stronger? or to buy amp , if so what is recomended one?

I have also acess to lots of old satelite tv ampliers but mosly are 12 volt ... please anyone who know let me know.

User Projects • Re: Trying to open my weird Garage with radio at 434Mhz

Do you have Gnu-Radio ? if so i can show u a setup of 4 things you can play with.

1. You can decode the key which is of 25bits directly you will see if the code is correct by entering multiple times and see if u got same data.

2. There is also possible to analyze the bandwith so you can se exact avarage band spectrum for devices.

3. You can use bruteforce , for example if you got one remove with 4 buttons u will be able to bruteforce them and replay signals in the same time!

Troubleshooting Help • DSD+ SDR# APCO25

Hi, I could really use some help getting this to work. I had it working at one time but my decodes are garbled and sound like robots. It's not understandable at all. I thought it was computer power so I just updated to a newer computer and it is still bad.

Here's the setup.
Intel i3 3300 mhz dual core
4 gigs ram
VB Cable A and B
RTL2832U
SDR#
DSD+ lastest fast lane

SDR# scans between 2 frequencies.
Audio to DSD+ through VB Cable A
Audio going into DSD+ and I see it on the wave form
Audio from DSD+ though VB Cable B to RadioFeed for Broadcastify.

All the audio routing is correct because I am getting the crap sound coming from Broadcastify and I am seeing the talkgroup and radio ID in DSD+. I have all the audio filters turned off in SDR#. Squelch is off as well. AGC is off on the SDR. RF Gain is 3/4 max. Audio level in SDR# is 3/4 max but have had it all over the place trying to get it to work. Sound level for VB cables is both 100% on sound and mic settings in Windows 10.

I've been playing with this for so long.... Months! I have read everything I can on the net. This thing should be working but it's not. I'm ready to drop $400 and buy a HomePatrol and be done with it.
