How to receive beautiful images using the web

For users that can't setup HRIT systems or are on a Mac, I wrote a very basic

python script that downloads the Full disk images and the CONUS images from GOES 16.

You do need to update to the latest python (2.7.15) for MAC or Windows at:

https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-2715/

and download my python script from:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xs9wjftdcwqjncb/GOES16_downloader.py.zip?dl=0

Unzip the file and place in a folder. I usually make a folder called GOES on the desktop.

You can run the program on windows by double clicking on it and on the MAC

you can right mouse click and click open with and select python launcher.

Of course you can use a terminal or cmd screen and type python GOES16_downloader.py

It will create a unique folder using your timestamp and download the images into that folder.

WARNING: I have selected the largest images so the total download will be about 120 meg.

And remember USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. If you are uncomfortable running this then pass.

Good morning all. Just got the RTL-SDR DV8-T+DAB+FM+SDR from Amazon. Interesting, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I thought it was an antenna for my radio. Got it up and running but don't know were to go from here. Was wondering if I am only going to hear static or will I be able to hear voices on it also? Thank You...... KC3KEU

Filtering out Airband?

Bit of an oddball question, but is there a filter available that can block out airband? Or at least a way I could construct a filter? Basically I live 5Km from an airport that transmits on 121.7 Mhz, and Ive noticed when Im trying to recieve NOAA signals and the airport starts transmitting it makes my NOAA signal noisy, so I was hoping there might be a way to block out around 121 Mhz while letting the 127 Mhz NOAA signal through.

Thanks!

Comment on Creating a Passive Traffic Radar with DVB-T Signals and KerberosSDR our 4-tuner Coherent RTL-SDR by Lord Khaos

During the 80’s I flew in various parts of the world doing the same thing. Flying US Navy EP-3 aircraft receiving the opposing forces radar energy we would be able to map out the area they were looking at. With further processing we would be able to determine what radar site X was actively looking at and tracking. I still remember being in awe at what we were able to accomplish. So much more I’d love to write about this but not sure what has been declassed.

Comment on Receiving GOES Weather Satellite HRIT with an SDRplay and 2.4 GHz WiFi Grid Antenna by Raul Andres Moch Diaz

Not yet, Im waiting for my Sawbird and Nooelec SDR Dongle, I will let you know!!!

Troubleshooting Help • «usb_claim_interface error -6» suddenly after weeks of working perfectly

He is a weird one, wonder if any one has any ideas.

Basically , physically moved a running RPI system with RTL-SDR runngin as service. Now after move it wont work until I unplug and plug the SDR dongle out and in.

More in detail :

I have had a RPi 3B+ running rtl-sdr as a service, using a NooElec Smart SDT dongle
Also have heyu bridge (Philips Hue emulator for X-10 home control) running connected to another USB port on the Pi.
Connections are :
x2 USB ports in use, the CM12 X10 device and the RTLSDR Dongle,
ethernet cable,
power cable

Running headless

It has now been working so well for weeks now, surviving reboot after reboot, cold shut downs and reboots and all seemed good. So seeing it is all working perfectly I moved it from the living room to its destined resting place in the attic.

Antenna moved with it to the attic and a short N-Type to SMA connector used in place of the 10 metes -8 half inch cable.

No software changes, just shut down and all plugged back in.

Changes to the physical setup:
I might have plugged the USB devices in to different sockets.
Pi now connected to the router directly , where as before it was connected via Router - Wifi -Deliberant Bridge receiver - Netgear Switch - ethernet cable -RPi.
The Pi now is potentially receiving its Reserved DHC address a bit quicker

Regarding the connection of the USB devices, I have tried all all 12 different combos of plugging the 2 usb plugs in to the 4 RPi ports, shutdown and reboot each time.

But cannot get it to work again.

keep getting
"usb_claim_interface error -6"

Have to now physically remove and replug it to get it to work the RTL SDR dongle to get it to work.

All blacklisting is correct...it was all working perfectly before physically moving the device.
Not run any update or upgrade to the Pi, just unplugged a fully working system and moved it to a different part of the house.

Apart from their being a poltergeist in the attic

any ideas ?
