Hi Everybody .
I live 11.5 miles from downtown Pensacola and I have a HF+ , the only out of band signals I saw was at 160 meters . That was fixed when Airspy released new Firmware last month . Now when I was using the V3 dongle I would have broadcast AM and FM band all over the place . So I got a MFJ 1020 C and it took care of two problems that you would have with direct sampling , out of band signals and no gain control . Would someone be so kind out their to tell me if their is gain control on the HF+ in the VHF mode .

Hello,

i bought a random 433MHz doorbell on ebay. My idea was to record the signal, replay it and make the doorbell ring.

By using "Universal Radio Hacker" I was able to see the signal is using "On Off Keying" on 433MHz, although I have no idea what exactly the bits mean.

To verify what kind of signal my LimeSDR is sending I connected an additional RTLSDR and started RTLConsole to listen to the signal on 433MHz.

My questions regard the image you see above:

What are the symmetric looking signals left and right of my sended signal?

Do those come from my LimeSDR sending wrong or are they caused by my receiving RTLSDR?

Is this normal or is this a malfunction?

I am using:

Windows 10

For receiving and sending the signal -> LimeSDR with Universal Radio Hacker

For verification of the sended signal -> RTLSDR with SDRConsole v3

I am using the small black antennas you usually see on wifi routers for receiving and sending.

The LimeSDR manufacturers provide a "LimeSDR-USB Quick Test" Guide. I used that guide and everything looked good to me.

Did you look at Fig.6 and Fig.7 of the data sheet?
The plotted lines do not stop at 0.1 GHz and don’t show significant increase of attenuation below 0.1 MHz so the insertion loss is somewhere between 0.35 dB to 0.5 dB.

Part of the insertion loss is caused from the RF switch PE42641.
According to the datasheet it has a frequency range rated 100MHz- 3.0GHz but the datasheet does not show and reason for the 100 MHz lower limit mentioned only in the product’s specifications subtitle.

Thanks for the very insightful reply. Should help other people if they have a similar problem as there isn't much information out there about this dongle. Its being marketed as having higher sensitivity than tne R820T type (but I was not able to find comparisons).

I shall be returning mine for a replacement then! Cheers!

That’s true but if you have enough stations you can DF the groundwave component 🙂

RTL-SDR Discussion • RTL-SDR dongle over Ethernet

Ok, first of all sorry for my English, if you are a Mod, you can correct it...

By the way, I've see that many people are asking about a "relocation" of the RTL-SDR dongle...
Like other people, i was got to use the RLD-SDR dongle in a different room than the PC-room, so I've solved in a very cheap way...

If you have a Ethernet cable from your PC and the room with the RTL-SDR, you can use a Linux Embedded Board like Raspberry (but i prefer Orange Pi Zero board due to the very low price, and the good quality) to share the usb connection over Ethernet with https://www.virtualhere.com/home

You have to setup your board (in my case ad OrangePi Zero 256MB) to be connectable in the Ethernet network, and then you have to download and run the VirtualHere Linux Server.
After that, you have to download and run the VirtualHere Client on your machine, and you will have the RTL-SDR dongle virtually connected to your machine!

I've got Linux on my Notebook, and when my OrangePi Zero is not scheduling and receiving some NOAA image, i can connect to it with VirtualHere ad use GQRX for fun...
No problem even with input rate of 3200000, but that can depend of your network quality...
