I have not been able to get my RTL-SDR R820T2 RTL2832U Version 3 dongle to work as a panadapter with either my Kenwood TS-570DG or my Yaesu FT-920..

I can control radios with OmniRig , but my panadapter display shows nothing but a few random lines. Just does not work! Maybe it is the particular dongle I am using. Also, my computer is plenty fast …I7 32gb ram, etc…..

Any ideas?

Direct Sample HF Signal Mirroring versus Upconverter HF Reception?

I'm wondering how common of a problem this is with Direct Sampling HF reception?

In the my screen video capture in the link below, I have two instances of SDR# running:

The top half shows SDR# running with an RTL-SDR using Direct Sampling for HF reception. The bottom half of the screen show SDR# running with an RTL-SDR + Upconverter for HF reception.

At 14.4MHz, I've been noticing signals on the left are being mirrored to the right, and vice versa. In comparison, the RTL-SDR + Upconverter instance shows where the actual originating signals are. These mirrored signals are very strong and it explains why I was picking up WWV at really odd frequencies. It's easy to rule that one out as an anomaly. But if I'm just manually scanning the frequencies, I can't tell if what I'm picking up is an actual originating signal or a mirrored signal unless I'm already familiar with the station and know that it definitely does not broadcast on the frequency or I'm picking up a transmission that is definitely in the wrong band (but in HF, that happens quite often anyway even for legitimate transmission). So, I can't really trust my logging with the Direct Sampling HF reception without doing some detective work. LOL. Was hoping the compactness of the unit would simplify things...well...I guess physically. But, this is an inconvenience I was not expecting. Anyone else noticing this?

Update: sdrangel64_v3.8.5 is working for me on Win 7 with OpenGL 3.1 Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver version 1.8.0.0 14-Mar-08 but on Github it says that OpenGL version 4.3+ is required for Windows.

I’ve been sitting on a set up I put together, but never tested, for HRPT and Goes using a 0.9 meter offset dish, a helical feed (made mine with PVC, copper tape and and a piece of copper-clad PCB), an RTL-SDR and an LNA4ALL.

I have been hesitant to test because I thought my dish was too small for GOES and did not think manual pointing of the dish would work.

However, if others are having success I may try it. Will still need to get decode software though.

Also, I think for HRPT a cross-polarized yagi with maybe 12 elements would also likely have enough gain, and a yagi at 1.7 GHz is pretty tiny. I bet I could use some hobby servos to point such a thing.

Satellite dish and receiving from GOES satellite

I'm gathering information on how to setup a system for capturing earth images from GOES satellite. I've read that a 1.2m satellite dish will do the job. However, I'm going to go for a 1.8m satellite dish. Here is my question. Are the 1.8m satellite dish listed from this link work capable of receiving transmissions from GOES satellite?

I am not sure why he chose 7zip either, but I am a big fan of 7zip myself so I haven’t complained. Perhaps it is a pro-FOSS bias; using 7z means you are a 1337 h4xx0r.

Also there could be IP or export issues with ZIP or something, who knows. Eduoard probably has a good reason.
